RIVERS STATE ON A NEW CHAPTER

-Governor Fubara redefining governance…

“Simplicity is the most difficult thing to secure in this world; it is the last limit experience and the last effort of genius.”
-George Sand

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, as exhibited in the redefining of governance in Rivers State by the administration of His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, as he proactively ensures that the third tier of governance in the state is operational through mandating the principal officers of Local Government Employees in taken up the administrative responsibilities of the Council and the subsequent swearing in of the 23 local government area Care-Taker-Commitees, ushering in a new chapter in the Local Government administration.

With the administrative revival of the local government functions, as directed by Governor Fubara when he said;
“what is happening here is in defence of our democracy. We will not allow a wrong precedent to be created in this country. It is not about Rivers State or me, but if in any way this attempt of tenure elongation succeeds in Rivers State, it will become a norm in Nigeria.”

“So, we have taken it up on ourselves that not within our own watch will such a thing happen. It is completely alien to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Rivers people across the 23 LGAs are hopeful that the financial transactions and allocation accrued to their areas will be judiciously utilised to alleviate the local areas since poverty is local.

It will be a clear redirection from what was obtainable, when council funds where misappropriated and diverted to the detriment of the people and local development’s.

The accounting Governor during the inauguration of the CTC chairmen charged them to used the opportunity to defend and work for their people when he said;

“So, let us not give them the opportunity to continue to make our state look bad. When you go back to your LGAs, if there is any situation, I want you to be law abiding, no confrontation. You can operate from anywhere, the most important thing is that you have the control of the LGAs today.”

The directive of the Governor’s to the Auditor-General for Local Government to audit their accounts in the 23 Local Government Areas for the past 3 years will further encourage prudent allocation of council fund. As it will reveal the level of damages done to the local government areas accounts by the past chairmen and will serve as a check for those saddle with the responsibility of managing council funds.

It is expected that the newly Care-taker committee chairmen will move with the zeal and enthusiasm of Governor Fubara to replicate his model of leadership which is based on the principles of peace, welfarism and the people first in their respective constituencies.

The local government system in Rivers State have suffered neglect for decades by past administration in areas of staff remuneration, training, promotion and gratuity. A trend which the present administration of Governor Fubara prioritised and tackles on assumption of office, ensuring the promotion and implementation of Rivers State NULGE staff. In good faith Rivers state look forward for a better future under the watch of the present administration.
