Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has assured Rivers people who are solidly behind his government that he will not betray their trust, but continue to rely on their support to do more for the people.

Governor Fubara while speaking at the special thanksgiving service to mark his one year in office at the St. Paul’s Cathedral Church, Diobu, Port Harcourt, on Sunday, said it is the grace of God and the solid trust and support of the people that has kept his government against what the enemies initially planned.

“I can tell you in good authority that even before we started this programme there was every plan to frustrate us. But to the glory of God, we are all gathered here to thank God for bringing us thus far. What the devil thought to be evil to afflict us with, God turned it to a blessing and good”

He commended everyone for their prayers and support in the past one year in the face of difficulties, stressing that though his administration may not have gotten it right, he believes that as they move on things will get better with their support.

In a special thanksgiving, the governor noted that in consideration of some of the challenges of the Church he is pledging the sum of N100 million to take care of the problems.

In his sermon, the Bishop of the Diocese of the Niger Delta North, Rt. Rev. Wisdom Budu Ihunwo harped on the importance of thanksgiving as God has admonished everyone to be grateful in order to receive more blessing especially for what God is doing per time.

“We are not at peace because we worked for it, but because God is at it. Look at the level of hunger in the land, yet there is calm everywhere. If God turns His back on this nation I wonder what would happen.”

“We can see God has helped our Governor accomplish great works within the one year. We can see the roads, healthcare, education, welfare and youth empowerment. We are praying and trusting God that he will do more.”

He admonished everyone that in returning to thank God, they must return with the attitude of gratitude just as the governor and his team have done to appreciate God after one year.
