Pro-PDP Group Urges Atiku to Withdraw 2027 Ambition, Calls for Sanctions Against Wike

pIn the wake of the recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the PDP Loyal Group 100 percent has emerged as a prominent voice, urging for pivotal changes within the party’s structure. The group, led by National Coordinator/Chairman Dennis Shima, emphasized that enduring peace within the party hinges on two crucial actions: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s sacrifice of his 2027 Presidential ambition and the imposition of sanctions against Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for alleged anti-party activities.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Shima stressed the necessity for Atiku to demonstrate statesmanship by relinquishing his 2027 Presidential ambition and throwing his support behind one of his mentees for the PDP ticket. The group cited consultations across Nigeria as the basis for their proposal, urging Atiku to embrace a role as a political kingmaker and statesman within the party.

Furthermore, the PDP Loyal Group 100 percent called on the upcoming PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) to wield its authority in accordance with the party’s constitution, specifically regarding offenses and sanctions. They advocated for the suspension of Nyesom Wike from participating in PDP activities at all levels, citing alleged actions detrimental to the party’s stability.

The group’s stance stems from their commitment to addressing political challenges and internal crises faced by PDP loyalists since the party’s defeat in the 2015 presidential election. Notably, they highlighted past collaborations with the Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee to revitalize the party’s image ahead of future elections.

Recalling the emergence of the G5 Governors from PDP prior to the 2015 general election, the group underscored Atiku’s role in the faction, attributing it to PDP’s subsequent defeat and the tenure of the “unfortunate” President Buhari-led Federal Government. They also emphasized their contributions to the party’s rebranding efforts during the 2017 PDP National Elective Convention.

The PDP Loyal Group 100 percent remains steadfast in their commitment to upholding the vision and mission of the PDP, advocating for unity and adherence to party principles. As the party navigates internal dynamics and prepares for future electoral battles, the calls for unity and discipline within its ranks continue to reverberate, echoing the sentiments of dedicated party loyalists across Nigeria.
