POLICE RESIST EFCC ATTEMPT TO ARREST YAHAYA BELLO

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) faced resistance from the police and supporters of former Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, as they attempted to arrest him at his residence in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.

The EFCC arrived at Bello’s residence around 9 am, initiating a standoff. Bello, who is under investigation for alleged misappropriation of public funds, had obtained an interim injunction barring the EFCC from arresting or prosecuting him, his former appointees, staff, or family members pending the determination of a substantive motion enforcing his fundamental rights.

However, the EFCC has appealed this injunction, arguing that the trial court lacked jurisdiction and that the order would allow Bello to evade investigation and possible prosecution. The Commission, represented by Jibrin Okutepa, emphasized that orders made without jurisdiction are null and void and urged the Court of Appeal to set it aside.
