EL-RUFAI DENIES POLITICAL GODFATHER ROLE, CALLS FOR FOOD LEADERSHIP IN KADUNA

During a Capacity-Enhancement Workshop for Senior Government Officials in Borno State on Monday, former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, distanced himself from the title of political godfather in Kaduna, emphasizing the importance of good leadership in governance.

El-Rufai, who has made only five visits to Kaduna since stepping down from office nearly a year ago, expressed his reluctance to interfere in the state’s affairs. He stressed the need for the current governor to lead independently and assemble a competent team to drive progress.

“I don’t want to be a godfather and that’s why I don’t interfere in what is happening in Kaduna,” El-Rufai stated. “I want him (the governor) to learn and get the job done by himself.”

He highlighted the critical role of good leadership, stating, “What we lack is good leadership, the major aspects of good quality of leadership. The leader should get good people to get the job done. Only God can do everything by himself, no matter how good you are as a leader, you can be as effective as people around you, and that’s why the saying that no country gets better than the quality of his civil services.”

El-Rufai’s remarks underscored the importance of fostering a capable administration and nurturing a conducive environment for effective governance in Kaduna.
