The perpetrators behind the abduction of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of Abia State University, Uturu, Prof Godwin Emezue, have been apprehended. Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, disclosed this during his monthly media chat with journalists at Government House, Umuahia on Friday.

According to Governor Otti, the leader of the gang was intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while attempting to board a flight bound for Turkey. Additionally, the second mastermind was captured in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Both individuals have been returned to Abia State to face justice for their crimes.

The governor attributed the success of the arrests to the diligent efforts of Operation Crush, a joint security team established by his administration. Operation Crush has been instrumental in combating criminal activities and has demonstrated effectiveness in dismantling criminal networks.

Governor Otti emphasized his commitment to utilizing security funds to safeguard the lives and property of Abia residents, as promised during his campaign. He acknowledged the financial strain associated with maintaining security but assured the public of his unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety of all citizens.

The arrest of the kidnappers marks a significant milestone in the fight against crime in Abia State, instilling hope and confidence in the effectiveness of the government’s security measures. As the suspects await trial, the state remains resolute in its determination to uphold law and order, prioritizing the protection of its people above all else.
