Attack on Policemen Leaves One Dead, Suspects at Large

An attack on policemen attached to Operation Sting of the Rivers State Police Command occurred on February 21, 2024. According to reports from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the officers were conducting routine stop and search at Eliozu flyover when they were ambushed by unidentified hoodlums operating in a carton-colored Sienna bus with fully tinted glasses.

During the attack, one Inspector valiantly gave his life in the line of duty while attempting to fend off the assailants. Despite the loss, the police team responded with bravery, managing to neutralize one of the attackers, who was found wearing a mask. The assailants, however, managed to escape, potentially sustaining gunshot wounds in the process.

The Rivers State Police Command has launched a thorough investigation into the incident and has already identified the group responsible. Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the command to relentlessly pursue the criminals and bring them to justice.

CP Disu emphasized that such acts of aggression against security forces have detrimental effects on the safety and security of society as a whole. He urged all law-abiding citizens to remain calm and assured them of the police force’s determination to uphold its mandate of preserving lives and property.

The Rivers State Police Command extends its deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of the fallen inspector, promising that his sacrifice will not be in vain. As investigations continue, the command stands firm in its resolve to serve and protect the community against any threats to peace and harmony.
