Vigilante Group Apprehends Armed Herders in Rivers State

A vigilante group in Ozuoha community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, reportedly apprehended three herders on Monday for being in possession of firearms.

According to Mr. Dickson Ngbuomahum, the Chief Security Officer of Ikwerre Local Government Area, the herders were intercepted by the vigilante group while moving from Aluu to Ozuoha. A search conducted by the vigilantes revealed two guns, two jack knives, and one axe wrapped in a mat carried by the suspects.

Mr. Ngbuomahum stated that the apprehended individuals have been handed over to the Police and are set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation And Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt.

While the Rivers State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident, recent reports from kidnapped victims, as revealed by Mr. Ngbuomahum, have implicated herders in abduction cases.

In a related development, Commissioner of Police CP Olatunji Disu, on January 6th, led operatives of the command to raid suspected kidnappers’ camps in a forest behind the stadium in Igwuruta, Ikwerre LGA, believed to be harboring kidnappers posing as herders.
