Tinubu Directs Settlement of State House Electricity Bill Amid Reconciliation

In a recent press statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information & Strategy, it was disclosed that President Tinubu has ordered the immediate settlement of the outstanding electricity bill owed to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) by the State House.

The directive comes in the wake of successful reconciliation efforts between the State House Management and AEDC. Despite earlier claims by AEDC in a paid advertorial, stating a debt of N923 million, records reveal that the actual outstanding bill for the State House stands at N342,352,217.46, as confirmed by a letter from AEDC management to the State House Permanent Secretary dated February 14, 2024.

In light of the reconciled position, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, has pledged that the debt will be settled before the week’s end, ensuring satisfaction for both parties involved. Additionally, Gbajabiamila urged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to follow suit by reconciling their accounts with AEDC and promptly fulfilling their electricity payment obligations.

President Tinubu’s administration sets a precedent for accountability and responsible financial management, showcasing a commitment to meeting governmental obligations and fostering cooperative relationships with service providers.
