Opobo/Nkoro LGA Chairman Presents N5.7B Appropriation Bill for 2024

The Executive Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area (LGA), Rt. Hon (Dr) Enyiada Cookey-Gam DSSRS, Balolo Of Opobo Kingdom, has unveiled the 2024 Appropriation Bill totaling N5,733,283,500b during a session at the Opobo/Nkoro Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, February 14th, 2024.

The budget, christened “Budget of Hope,” underscores Dr. Cookey-Gam’s dedication to equitable governance for both indigenes and residents. The proposed budget delineates a capital expenditure of N2,246,500,000 and a recurrent expenditure of N3,429,449,665.

In a press statement Signed by Clinton Tamunoiduari Thomas Ogolo, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area,Dr. Enyiada said the presentation marks a significant step towards advancing Opobo/Nkoro’s socio-economic landscape in 2024 and beyond.

He outlined strategic priorities for the LGA’s development, including strategic infrastructure, agriculture (with a focus on food production and processing), education, human capacity development, and social welfare schemes.

Expressing satisfaction with the implementation of the previous budget, Dr. Cookey-Gam emphasized the budget’s continuity to consolidate on past achievements and expedite Opobo/Nkoro LGA’s progress.

Hon. Cookey-Gam underscored that the recurrent expenditure accounts for the N30,000 minimum wage and staff promotions, aligning with the vision of the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS.

Furthermore, Mr Chairman emphasized the overarching vision of transforming the LGA into an Economic and Investment Hub within Rivers State and the broader nation.
