Anambra-born billionaire, Chief Osondu Nwoye, has reportedly passed away while watching the Super Eagles of Nigeria play against the South African national team. Nwoye, known as the richest Igbo businessman based in Ivory Coast, allegedly collapsed during the match.
The news of Nwoye’s demise was shared by a Facebook user, Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, on Thursday, sparking shock and sadness among many.
According to eyewitnesses, Nwoye was visibly ecstatic and shouting with joy when Nigerian striker, Victor Osihmen, scored the second goal. However, his elation turned to shock and despair when the goal was later disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), and a penalty was awarded to South Africa.
The sudden turn of events is believed to have overwhelmed Nwoye, leading to his collapse inside the stadium. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead.
