A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has issued an ex-parte order preventing the Nigerian Police and other security agencies from arresting, detaining, or harassing the former speaker of the Rivers state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie.
The order was granted in response to a motion ex-parte filed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Ehie Edison, aiming to halt any potential arrest concerning his alleged role in the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly’s Hallowed Chambers last year.
Presiding over the case, Judge Sika Aprioku granted the order and scheduled the substantive application’s hearing for February 6th. The legal action comes amid heightened political tensions in the state, with the Martin Amaewhule-led group previously urging the police to apprehend, investigate, and prosecute Mr. Ehie for his purported involvement in the suspected arson at the House of Assembly Complex during the political crisis.
