NYCN Chairman Defends Unyielding Support for Governor Fubara

Accuses Nwanosike of Crisis Instigation Over Unmet Political Ambitions

In a recent radio interview on Wazobia FM 94.1 PH, AMB. Chijioke Ihunwo, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) for Rivers State and the South-South zone, boldly declared his unwavering support for the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara. Emphasizing that he owes no one an apology, Ihunwo asserted that his allegiance to Governor Fubara stems from the desire of Rivers youths who perceive the governor as a peaceful and compassionate leader dedicated to the welfare of young people.

Addressing the political landscape, Ihunwo highlighted the shift in leadership from the Ikwerre people, who held power for sixteen years and five months, to the riverine region. He urged citizens to offer the necessary support to the current administration, emphasizing the need for unity in advancing the state’s development.

When questioned about the potential tribal undertones in the political discourse, Ihunwo dismissed the notion, asserting that the focus should be on governance rather than tribal affiliations. He defended the governor, expressing perplexity over the alleged impeachment threats against Sir Fubara without clear reasons provided.

The Chairman also responded to inquiries about Hon. Samuel Nwanosike, the Chairman of Ikwerre local government, who had insulted Governor Fubara. Ihunwo, acknowledging their friendship, accused Nwanosike of instigating crisis due to his unmet aspirations for key positions in the state government. He claimed that Nwanosike’s desperation for roles such as Deputy Governor, Chief of Staff, or Secretary to the State Government had fueled rumors and propaganda against Governor Fubara.
