In a significant victory for law enforcement, the Rivers State Police Command successfully apprehended Silas Oderereke, widely known as ‘General,’ a notorious armed robber and cult leader who had eluded capture for four years. The arrest took place in Oderereke, Ahoada-West Local Government Area, where Oderereke resisted arrest and engaged the police in a fatal shootout.
Oderereke, the leader of the Greenlanders’ cult group operating in the Ubie clan of Ahoada West, was infamous for orchestrating armed robberies, land grabbing, unauthorized property sales, and violent attacks against those opposing his criminal activities. His arrest followed a tip about an ongoing robbery operation involving the vandalism of the late monarch’s property, Eze Robinson O. Robinson.
Responding swiftly to the information, the police pursued the criminals, leading to a confrontation at a community-owned tank farm in Oderereke. ‘General’ and his gang attempted to loot the facility but were thwarted by the police. In the ensuing shootout, Oderereke and a cohort were neutralized, while others sustained injuries. Two key accomplices, Danger-boy and 2-Man, managed to escape and are currently on the run.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said a subsequent search of the gang’s hideout revealed a cache of weaponry, including a G3 Rifle and nineteen 7.62x51mm ammunition. Investigations further unveiled a camp established by Oderereke between Oderereke and Olokuma Communities, serving as a base for launching robbery attacks on neighboring communities.
The affected communities expressed relief following the operation, sharing stories of residents who had relocated to Port Harcourt to escape the violence inflicted by the cult group.
Commending the officers for their exceptional work, Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, issued a stern warning to cultists in the state, urging them to abandon criminal activities or face the consequences. Assuring residents, CP Disu emphasized the Police Command’s unwavering commitment to peace and security in Rivers State.Follow us on social media
