IGP Egbetokun Arrives in Jos, Takes Swift Action After Tragic Attacks

….Orders Tactical Team Deployment, Relocation of AIG to Plateau State

In response to the recent tragic attacks in Barkin Ladi, Mangu, and Bokkos local government areas of Plateau State on December 24th, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun Ph.D., NPM, has arrived in Jos to address the situation.

Accompanied by high-ranking police officials, the IGP engaged in discussions with Governor Celeb Manasseh Muftwang and other key stakeholders to assess the aftermath of the attacks that resulted in the loss of several lives.

IGP Egbetokun during the visit, issued immediate orders for the deployment of a specialized team comprising operatives from various police units, including the Police Mobile Force, Counterterrorism Unit, Special Forces, Intelligence Response Team, Force Criminal Investigation Department, and the Special Tactical Squad. Their mission is to thoroughly investigate the affected areas, identify culprits, and ensure swift justice to restore enduring peace.

In addition to his directives, the IGP visited Bokkos to assess the situation firsthand and interact with the affected local community.

Recognizing the need for enhanced coordination, the IGP has temporarily relocated Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Ebong Eyibio Ebong, psc(+), fcpa, mni, to Plateau State. This move aims to oversee and coordinate immediate operational responses.

In line with the president’s directive, the IGP expressed readiness to collaborate with the military for a joint effort to combat the armed militia responsible for the attacks. He urged the public not to add ethnic coloration to the incident, emphasizing that it’s the work of armed criminals.

The Nigeria Police Force reassures Plateau State citizens and the nation of its commitment to pursuing justice and ensuring the safety of all residents. The IGP extends heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the tragic incident, reaffirming the Force’s dedication to upholding law, order, and peace in the region.
