In a significant legal move, Rivers Elders have taken prominent figures, including President Tinubu, Governor Fubara, and the Rivers State House Of Assembly, to court.
The Elders seek clarification on whether these figures have the right to enter agreements that potentially undermine the constitutional/legal potency of Section 109 (I)(g) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Furthermore, the Elders are urging the court to compel INEC to conduct fresh elections in the 27 constituencies affected by vacancies left by the defected former lawmakers.
As part of their legal demands, the Elders are seeking a perpetual injunction against President Bola Tinubu and the Attorney General of the Federation, barring them from interfering in the affairs of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
This legal action underscores the Elders’ commitment to upholding constitutional principles and defending the interests of Rivers State.
