DILAPIDATED SCHOOLS IN RIVERS STATE BEGGING FOR URGENT INTERVENTION

Over the years Rivers state government have reconstructed many primary schools, including classroom blocks, provision of water, toilet facilities and power generators, supplied furniture, sports, information and communication technology equipment to ensure quality education in the state.

Despite the educational tranformation in the State by previous administrations and the zeal of the incumbent governor to sustain the developmental stride in the educational sector, many schools especially in the interior of the 23 local government area still remain dilapated, suffering from neglect with broken roofs, shattered floors and windows, and non-existent of water and toilet facilities.

The affected schools that are begging for government intervention include; UPE Obosi and St Stephen Primary in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Community Secondary school Umuozoche, Igbodo in Etche LGA, Jonkrama Grammar School Ahoada West, Community school Azuogu Ndoki in Oyigbo LGA, State School Akpabu Emohua LGA, State Primary School Eligbo Ahoada East LGA just to mention few of the dilapidated schools in Rivers state that are begging for attention as the two school leave sour taste in the mouth.according to Gist Correspondent.

During a visit to State Primary School Eligbo in Ahoada East LGA, the site of the dilapidated schools was an eye sour as the structure stood without roof, Windows and door. On further probe it was revealed that the school lack teaching staff as posted teacher opt out due to the environment which is did not encourage teaching and learning process. A Teacher who spoke under anonymity lamented the poor condition of the school, said numerous appeal to authorities has not yielded any result.
