An Abuja High Court has granted bail to the detained former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
The court order came following the CBN Governor’s request for bail after being in detention for about 151 days without trial. The court ruled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had failed to comply with the court’s previous order to release Emefiele.
The court also noted that the claim by the Federal Government that Emefiele would be arraigned on a fresh charge on November 15 was speculative, and therefore, ordered his immediate release.
Emefiele was ordered to surrender his international documents and appear in court on November 15 for his planned arraignment.
