Governor of Rivers State; His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, on Thursday, 12 October attended the One-day Sensitization and Awareness Campaign for Rivers South East Senatorial District organized by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), which held at the Tai LGA Multi Purpose Hall, Sakpenwa.
Governor Fubara, ably represented by the commisioner for youth development; Hon. Dr. Chisom Kenneth Gbali said that while there had been a larger gathering for Petroleum Engagement of both the Oil Companies and Host Communities a few months ago in Port Harcourt, the NUPRC thought it wise to bring the sensitization closer home for closer engagements with the grassroots.
Dr. Gbali said his primary assignment today is to encourage the Host Communities that suffer negligence and degradation from the activities of Oil and Gas Companies to keep hope alive as the State Government will work with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to ensure that the 3% OPEX signed by the immediate past Federal Government as contained in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 will be implemented which will in turn escalate development in the Oil Producing Communities in Rivers State.
High Chief (Engr) George Bucknor the Convener, went further to unravel the benefits of Oil Producing Communities as well as sensitize the people to help them understand the 3% OPEX, the sustainable development plan and their participatory rights as contained in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.
Present at the event were Youth Leaders, CDC Chairmen, Women Leaders, etc from the Seven Local Government Areas of the Rivers South East Senatorial district.Follow us on social media
