The Millennium Old Boys, 2000 Set of County Grammar School Ikwerre Etche Port Harcourt Rivers State recently paid a courtesy call on their Alma mater Tuesday 26th September, 2023.
Dr. Chigbu Samuel M. Principal Seniour Secondary – with his counterpart Chief Lucky Onwuamaegbu UBE welcomed the team led by Dr. Wokocha Kelechi Da-Kaladokubo who went round the school on a facility tour.
In his welcome, Dr. Chigbu reminded Old Boys Millennium Set that if not that old boys of the school of different sets have always identified with the school many a times, the school would have been closed down.
“I am happy seeing all of you, we have been seeing many of you here, 72 set, 71 set 81 set, 89 set and they have been of help. Like I used to say and I will continue to say, without old boys County is dead”.
Responding the leader of the delegation as well as President Millennium Old Boys Dr. Wokocha informed the school authorities that the idea was to reawaken their annual ritual of courtesy call on their school but this time they decided to feature an encouragement package to the students through presentation of educational materials to brighten the hopes of the students.
During the facility tour, the principal highlighted that the major challenge of the school is the problem of no electricity within the schools premises. According to him the problem became more encompassing when the transformer became dis- functional hence no part of the school can boast of using any electrical appliance in the past three years. Teachers who live within the premises at the few existing teachers quarters have had difficulties coping without electricity which contributed to the rise in insecurity of lives and school property within the premises.
From the facility tour made, the school has lost her population strength to modern innovations a disadvantage capable of discouraging most parents whose children are eager to remain there. To this end science teachers and other subject teachers have been on fluctuation, lopsidedness and incomplete academic curriculum have become the order of the day. Where electricity is needed to power the equipment, science practicals have become shadows of the past.
It was indeed an opportunity for the old boys to access their alma mater with the view to rendering assistance the best they can to alleviate the sufferings of the school.
Not less than five hundred educational materials with the exclusion of pen and hymnbooks Ancient and Modern Revised were handed over to the principals for distribution to the students.
