Keep the tenets of Journalism, NUJ Chairman tells Gist Chapel.

Members of the Gist Newspaper and Magazine Chapel have been charged to keep to the standard of journalism practice.

State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists Rivers State Council Mr. Stanley Job Stanley who spoke at the 2nd inauguration of the Gist chapel in Port Harcourt on Monday, enjoined members of the new chapel to maintain all required heights in the profession pointing that journalism has no room for mediocres or unprofessionalism hence members must embrace the tenets of journalism.

“In line with the practice, Nigerian journalists are always proactive when it comes to information dissemination to the general public. Be therefore encouraged to do the needful and be up and doing”.

Responding, the chairman of the newly inaugurated chapel Mr. Amaike Ihuoma Okoronkwo thanked members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Rivers State Council for finding time out of their busy schedule to honour the inauguration. He appealed for the support of the State Council to enable the chapel succeed.

“I want to thank our chairman here Mr Stanley on behalf of the chapel for this 2nd inauguration. I will assure you that we are ready to run properly as a chapel but would want you as the state chairman to always come to our aid anytime we call on you for such assistance. We are not coming back to join any queue as a chapel that was once on ground, we are back to lead in the areas peculiar to our reading audience in line with journalism practice”.

Susan Nwikhana – NAWOJ chairperson

The state chairperson of NAWOJ Mrs. Susan Serekhara Nwikhana used the medium to call on the female members amongst them to fully identify with female journalists at the state level as NUJ remains the parent body. She eulogised the efforts of the publisher Mrs. Sotonye Toby Fulton in ensuring that The Gist Newspaper and Magazine is re-invigorated into the media space to the recent standard for the services ahead.

In her vote of thanks, the publisher Mrs. Sotonye Toby Fulton expressed her joy that the chapel is back and better inspite of all odds.
“We were inaugurated by Mr. Kalio onetime chairman of NUJ a long time ago. As a matter of fact Gist has been on since 2006, yes! you know why it is called Gist? It is gist from the way you say it and it is for the tabloid within this area but the outlook is international. Thank you for coming back to re-inaugurate us”.
