COUP IN GABON AS MILITARY OFFICERS ANNOUNCES POWER TAKE OVER

Minutes after the state election body declared President Ali Bongo the winner of the general election for a third term, a group of senior Gabonese military officers have appeared on national television in the early hours of Wednesday and announced power takeover.

The officers said they represented all security and defence forces in the Central African nation. They said the election results were cancelled, all borders closed until further notice and state institutions dissolved.

The Officer’s during their announcement said; “In the name of the Gabonese people we have decided to defend the peace by putting an end to the current regime.”

There was Loud sounds of gunfire in the capital Libreville, after the television appearance. Meanwhile
the government of the OPEC-member nation, are yet to make a statement on the ugly development.
