POLICE RECOUNTS SUCCESSES IN SERIES OF OPERATIONS

The Rivers State Police Command has announced strings of successes in the operations it carried out in the state in the last seven days. The police made the revelations during a press briefing by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka on Monday, August 21, 2023, at the Police headquarters in Port Harcourt.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi revealed that at about 1:00 am on Tuesday, 15/08/2023, they arrested one Nwanaka Future Nwokoma (male), and one Gift Eze (male), a.k.a. Aru-Ojo, all of the Akala-Olu community in Ahoada West LGA of the state, based on intelligence it gathered. The suspects allegedly specialized in robbing innocent people along the East-West road and its environs. One English pump action gun was reportedly recovered from them and they all confessed to the crime and stated further that they are General Dangerboy/Chiefo of Embrass Forest foot soldiers. CP Nwonyi said efforts are in top gear to arrest other fleeing suspects and General Dangerboy.

The CP also disclosed that police operatives relied on a piece of information that two men were seen around River Ebuguma and stormed the area at about 5:20 am on Wednesday, 16/08/2023. The hoodlums reportedly took to their heels on sighting the police while the two kidnapped victims were rescued. “The two victims were debriefed and have reunited with their family members, while an investigation is ongoing,” the police boss said.

It was also mentioned that police operatives of the Rivers State Command, on Thursday, 17/08/2023 at about 8:30 pm rescued one victim (name withheld) of Rumuokwachi Ogbogoro, Port Harcourt who was kidnapped by four armed men inside a Toyota Corolla car. The CP said upon receiving the information, a patrol team was dispatched to the scene where the kidnappers were given a hot chase with the assistance of an OSPAC vigilante group, and the victim was rescued unhurt.
He also revealed that one suspect was arrested, and two of the kidnappers were neutralized during a gun duel. The Toyota Corolla car and a locally made pistol were recovered. Efforts were said to be in top gear to arrest other fleeing suspects. “Investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing hoodlums and recovered their operational weapons,” the CP added.

Furthermore, the CP stated that on Friday, 18/08/2023 at about 9:00 pm, following an incessant manhunt of cultists terrorizing Ahoada East and Ahoada West LGAs, one General Silas (male) of Odiereke Ubie community in Ahoada West LGA surrendered two pump action guns; one automatic and one manual. The CP added that an effort is seriously in motion to clamp down on other cultists for the possible recovery of more arms and ammunition unlawfully in their possession.

CP also briefed members of the press that police operatives led by the Commander of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) together with HAWK Teams, on Friday 18/08/2023 at about 6:18 pm, conducted a joint operation at Agbonchia/Oyigbo axis of Rivers State, where one (named withheld) who was kidnapped was rescued unhurt. The victim was said to have been kidnapped on Thursday, 17/08/2023 at the Rumuaholu, off SARS Road, by four armed men. “The victim has been debriefed and reunited with his family, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the culprits and recover their operational weapons.” the CP confirmed.

Lastly, the CP briefed that the police, on Saturday, 19/08/2023 at about 2:15 am, rescued five kidnapped victims from a forest near Rumuodogo junction in Emohua LGA of Rivers State. The victims have been reunited with their family members. CP Nwonyi revealed that a police operative attached to Rumuji Division had received information from a driver to a transport company en route to Port Harcourt from Lagos at about 1:30 am. The driver informed that his vehicle was blocked at Rumuodogo junction and all five passengers were kidnapped. The rescue was made by officers of a patrol team mobilized by the DPO of Rumuji Division. An investigation is ongoing to track down the culprits, he added.

CP Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka reiterated that curbing crime in our society is a collective job of the citizens. He called on residents of the state to be open and supportive of security operatives in fighting crime and criminality. He further thanked the members of the press for their constant support.
