ECOWAS GIVES NIGER COUP PLOTTERS 7DAY ULTIMATUM TO RETURN TO CIVIL RULE

The president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Omar Touray, while delivering a communique, insists that Bazoum is the legitimate and officially recognised president of Niger. Warning
Niger coup plotters to release and reinstatement him as the democratically elected government within 7days.

The decision was reached after a powered extraordinary delegation of ECOWAS member states meet on Sunday at Abuja, presided over by President Bola Tinubu.

Part of resolution reached include suspension of all commercial and financial transactions between ECOWAS member states and Niger, and frozen of energy transactions.

ECOWAS does not rule out the use of force in maintaining order in Niger. As it declared ‘no fly zone’ on all commercial flights to and from Niger.

It will be recalled that colonel-major Amadou Abdramane on Wednesday announced the removal of President Mohamed Bazoum from office in a coup d’etat, closing the country borders and dissolving the country’s constitution and institutions.
