Rivers State, known and recognized as Nigeria’s treasure base, is a nascet democratic State, created by the military administration of General Yakubu Gowon, under Decree No. 14, on May 27th 1967.
The State returned to a democratic rule in 1999 with His Excellency Sir, Dr. Peter Odili sworn in as governor on the 29th May 1999, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Since her return to democratic rule and the birth of the 4th Republic, the State has however not witnessed continuity/consolidation in governance. A development that has affected the State critically in terms of sustained development and growth.
Suffice it therefore to say that the sincerity and political sagacity of former governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, in producing a successor of same political party in His Excellency Sir, Siminalayi Fubara, to consolidate and continue from where his (Wike’s) administration stopped on the 29th May 2023, is curative to the age long loophole/vacuum experienced in the administrative governance of Rivers State.
The successful and hitch free inauguration of His Excellency Sir, Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, on the 29th May 2023, as the 7th democratically elected governor of Rivers State, marks the beginning of another beautiful era that will see Rivers State to her greater heights of glory.
