As a Port Harcourt Boy, I can tell you for a fact that Burna Boy was a music head before Davido.

Davido’s first single was “Back When” with Naeto C in May 2011. Not like he has been “Underground Singing”. No! He even explained in an interview how he can about that joint with Naeto C. If anything, he was into Production. He was making beats before the dropped of Oakland to do music. He came back to Nigeria in 2011. The singing part was some fun experiment for him. He was able to drop his Omo Baba Olowo album on July 17, 2012.

However Burna Boy on the other hand was already doing and recording songs even while abroad. I remember my close encounter with him and his Mum. Then I was part of a music group called RuudBoiz that had PI Piego of the duo Ajebo Hustlers. He was ready.

Burna Boy released his 15-Track mixtape titled Burn Identity in November of 2011 with features from artists like Sauce Kid, Shank, LOS, and even Davido. By this time, Davido had just two joints; “Back When” and Dami Duro.

I attended Burna had his first show in Port Harcourt with my then crew on the invite of his mum. It was held at Pin Place event center at NTA-Mgbuoba Road. It was said that Davido was billed to perform too.

The only advantage Davido held over Burna Boy was the fact that David had more PR money. Davido had a video for almost every song he did and ‘Clarence shot it’. In fact, Burna Boy featured in the Dami Duro video.

Davido only got to enjoy more visibility and got international recognition quicker while Burna Boy had his initial struggles in breaking into the Lagos market as a PH boy, “Like to party” did the trick, and then South Africa took notice. And when “YE” caught fire in the West, the whole world started paying attention.

What Davido said was Disrespectful with capital D!

Burna Boy was even a music head before him. The facts speak.
