As the NLC prepare for a strike to drive home it’s position against President Tinubu proclamation of ending fuel subsidy in Nigeria, It’s President Comrade Joe Ajaero has remind the incumbent President of the crucial role he played against fuel subsidy removal during the tenure of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan.
It will be recalled that President Tinubu was among those that stood firm against the removal of fuel subsidy by the then President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in 2012. In his famous anti-fuel subsidy quote he said “Removal of oil subsidy – President Jonathan breaks social contract with the people.”

13 years ago, Tinubu had criticised ex-President Goodluck Jonathan over the attempt to remove subsidy, describing the move as unpopular and a plot to to siphon the proceeds realised.
As the controversial fuel subsidy removal lingers Nigerian Workers and teeming jobless masses are made to suffer the accumulated effect of a corrupt and inefficient system.
The fuel subsidy no doubt is a cankerworm that had eaten deep into the fabric of Nigeria economy, and needed to be eradicate for the survival of the oil rich nation. The argument from analysts varies, as some are of the opinion that there should be room for robust dialogue, consultation and stakeholders engagement before implementation, while others are of the view that it proclamation was timely, and if not now, when can it be?
