A Volkswagen saloon car suspected of transporting illegally refined diesel caught fire at the Waterlines flyover on Aba road.
According to reports, a vehicle containing petroleum products caught fire on the newly constructed flyover in Port-Harcourt on Monday night.
An official from the Rivers State Fire Service, who requested anonymity, spoke with our correspondent about what caused the fire. “We received a distress call and responded to the scene of the fire incident, and out of the fire, but we did not meet anyone to interrogate,” he said.

When asked what caused the fire, he said they suspected explosions from the unknown products they were transporting or faulty electrical components in the car. “When we arrived at the scene of the fire, we didn’t see anyone to ask what happened, but we suspect two things: one, carrying of kpofire or faulty electrical wires of the car.”
The bridge needs to be repaired, according to our investigation at the scene, because the pressure from the heat and explosions has caused significant damage to the asphalt and beam of the bridge.
