PURSUE ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE’, DG FRIN, PROVOST FCFRM ISHIAGU, CHARGE MATRICULANTS

The Director-General (DG), Forestry Rereach Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) Prof. Zarcharia B. Yaduma and the Provost, Federal College of Forestry Resources Management Ishiagu (FCFRMI) Ebonyi State, Dr. Emeghara Ursulla in Ukamaka have charged new intakes of the FCFRMI lshiagu to pursue academic excellence and shun all forms of social vices.

They stated this during the maiden matriculation ceremony of the institution in Ishiagu Ebonyi State recently, adding that excellence in any field of endeavour is a choice one timely makes with the required hardwork to match.

Further in his remarks, the DG FRIN, Prof Yaduma, disclosed that the College has come to stay and encouraged youths from Ishiagu community, Ivo Local Government Area (LGA) of the state to take advantage of the institution to further their careers in forestry and other related courses.

Prof. Yaduma who congratulated the matriculants also commended the Acting Provost of the College, Dr. Emeghara, adding that he was pleased with her administrative prowess in the management of both Human capital and material resources in the instrtution.

Earlier in her remark,The Ag. Provost, FCFRM lshiagu, Ebonyi State, Dr Emeghara revealed that FCFRMI lshiagu was among one of the newly established colleges under Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) with a mandate to ensure subtainable environmental management via training of sub-technical and technical manpower through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) programmes at National and Higher National Diploma levels.She disclosed that the utilization of trees and forest for mitigation of the threats of climate change is in high advocacy, hence, the need to take up a career in forest conservation to protect the planet, biodiversity, ensure food security and resources for future generations.

Dr Emeghara further disclosed that the Entrepreneurship department of the College presently has huge number of students undergoing training with the objectives of producing graduands that are well-equipped to set up their business in line with the skills acquired from the College.The Provost listed the vocational units of the institution to include:Agro Silviculture, Environmental Protection Techniques, Nursery Establishment and technology, forest guard, livestock management, Nursery Establishment, poultry production and management.

Others include: Ornamental Horticulture, Plantation Establishment, piggery, snailry, apiary, computer appreciation/repairs and maintenance.Dr. Emeghara further charged them to shun deviant behaviours and take their studies seriously in other to excel in their chosen course of study.

Highlights of the event were administration of oath of allegiance to the matriculants by the Registrar, Mrs. Chioma Ogbuji, the commissioning of newly built administrative building of the College and newly acquired tractors as well as it’s implements by the DG, FRIN, Prof. Yaduma.Other dignitaries at the event include; Member representing Ohanivo constituency, Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Livinus Makwe, the Director, Forest Economics and Extension Department and Coordinator, Trainings, FRIN, Prof. Felix Iduma, the Director, Widelife and Ecotourism Department, FRIN, Prof. Abiodun S. Kehinde, the traditional ruler of Ishiagu, HRH Eze Moses Ngele and his council of chiefs, the traditional ruler of lhie autonomous community, HRH Eze Moses Ngele among others.
