In the anal of world history, 2022 memories will not be forgotten in a jiffy in Nigeria. As Nigerians record some major world events that effects it citizens. Some of this events includes;

FIFA WORLD CUP IN QATAR

The Qatar 2022 world cup which hosted 32 countries and boost the Middle East nation’s economy did not benefit Nigeria. All participating countries received money from FIFA.

Nigeria the most populous African country lost out totally from the economic profit due to it inability of to qualify for the world football tournament.

Nigeria lost atleast $9million approximately #4 billion, which they would have benefited if eliminated at the group stage in the world cup. Nigeria FIFA world ranking has been reduced from 32nd to 35th in world ranking and from fourth to fifth position in Africa ranking due to it absence in the 2022 Qatar world cup.

CLIMATE CHANGE AND FLOODING

Due to global climate change over 30 states in Nigeria were affected by flood this year. The 2022 flood in Nigeria displaced 1.4 million people and killed over 600 persons in the most affected states of Borno, Benue, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Edo, Kano, Kogi, Bayelsa, Adamawa and Jigawa.

RUSSIAN/UKRAINE WAR

The effects of the war between the two European nations of Russia and Ukraine on Nigeria caused a major hike in wheat prices which affects the cost of production in the baking and confectionery industry.

FUEL PRICE HIKE AND INFLATION

On the 24th day of February 2022, President Vladimir Putin order the invasion of Ukraine. The invasion of Ukraine and it subsequent sanctions by world powerful nations as they peg Russian crude oil at $60 per barrel, affecting global oil prices and leading to inflation in Nigeria.

Diesel prices in fuelling stations in Nigeria was sold at the price of N288 per litre before the war, but has skyrocketed to N800 currently.
