The Spanish coastguard have reported that three Nigerians illegal migrants were rescued from the rudder of an oil and chemical tanker Althini ll.
The illegal migrants stowed away on the rudder of the ship, with an intent of arriving Europe for greener pasture. But were intercepted at Las Palmas in Canary islands after 11days voyage from Lagos seaport.
The Spanish Canary Islands base on research findings is a major passage for African illegal migrants smuggling themselves to Europe.
Reacting to the incident, Helena Maleno, director of migration non-governmental organisation Walking Borders, said;
“On several previous occasions, stowaways were able to remain in Spain with political asylum.”Follow us on social media
