UNITED STATES AND CHINA SUPPORT NEEDED FOR CLIMATE ACTION FOR A BETTER WORLD

World leaders and delegates from 200 countries converged at the COP27 UN Climate Summit in Egypt, with a single aim of proffering solution to global climate change. During the flag-off of the two day
Climate Implementation Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, António Guterres the United Nations Secretary- General, called for a historic pact between developed and developing countries in joining forces to move the world towards eradicating carbon emissions, transforming energy systems and avoiding a climate catastrophe.

Mr Guterres said ;
“Greenhouse gas emissions keep growing. Global temperatures keep rising. And our planet is fast approaching tipping points that will make climate chaos irreversible. We are on a
highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator.”

The two largest world economies, the United States and China are expected to pioneer the accomplishment of the pact. This is our only hope of meeting our climate goals, Mr Guterres added.

Meanwhile, Al Gore former US President said ; “We have a credibility problem all of us, we’re talking and we’re starting to act, but we’re not doing enough”.

climate change is occurring at an overwhelming speed, than earlier predicted. The negative effects are enormous than anticipated, and the window for remedial action is gradually winding up.

The report says, the three climate action areas which includes; cutting emissions, boosting resilience and dealing with the loss and damage caused by climate change impacts, will involve developed countries and emerging market to raise U.S. $1 trillions annually for financing global climate action.

Humanity and it’s environment is at a crossroads, One path narrowing to global prosperity, while the other lead to environmental degradation and decay. As depict by successive report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
