Despite the conflicting figures trailing the Anambra boat disaster, over 70 persons have been confirmed missing in the boat mishap that occurred during the weekend at Umunnankwo community River in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra state.
The marine vessel conveying over 80 passengers from Onukwu Bridge to Nkwo market Ogbakuba, capsized mainly due to overloading and bad weather condition coupled with the prevailing flood submerging communities within the banks of River Niger.
The Chairman of the local government area transition committee, Hon Pascal Aniegbuna confirm the tragic event, while sending condolences to the Ogbahu community and the families of those that lost their lifes in the boat disaster.
Meanwhile, the Executive Governor of Anambra state, Prof Charles Soludo have demand for a thorough investigation into the accident, as efforts have been intensified to search the rivers side for survivals.
