The nation wide strike action announced by the National Union of Electricity Workers (NUEE) on Tuesday during a protest at the Transmission Company Of Nigeria’s headquarters in Abuja had been suspended, following the intervention of Chris Ngige the Minister of Labour and Employment.
The strike which caused blackout in Nigeria cities in Wednesday, due to the industrial action by electricity workers under the joint umbrella of National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEC) was necessitate by alleged contravention of the conditions of Service and Career Progression and stigmatisation of staff by the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation and refusal of the market operators to fund the payment of entitlements of EX-PHCN staff as agreed in the December 2019 agreement.
