ADEKUROYE WINS NIGERIA’S 3RD GOLD MEDAL AT THE COMMON WEALTH GAMES:

Nigeria is having an impressive run at the common wealth games in Birmingham, taking the tally of medals to 14.

In the 57kg women’s wrestling category, Adekuoroye defeated Malik 7-3 to lift the gold medal.

The 28-year-old Ondo-born wrestler claimed her third successive Commonwealth Games gold on Friday evening at the Coventry Arena.

The six-time African champion’s journey to the gold medal was an easy ride as she overpowered all the opponents that came her way, showing extraordinary expertise.

She defeated Uganda’s Veronica Ayo 2-0 via pin fall in the round of 16 and advanced to beat Kenya’s Sophie Ayieta 10-0 to move to the semi-final, where she made easy meal of Taylor Hannah of Canada to get to the final.

Her podium finish has brought Nigeria’s medal tally to 14, while maintaining the 8th position on the medal table.
