Following the report of Mr Peter Chutte lead 13 Man Committee set-up to carry out the process of name updating and other forms of verification.
The Eleme local government area Hon Obarilomate Ollor said they will commence the payment of #50,000 to 1,385 Eleme students in tertiary institutions in the state from October, 2022.

While receiving the 13 Man committee, the council boss said the bursary payment is aimed at cushioning the financial academic hardship faced by Eleme students studying in different higher institutions in Rivers state, encourage peace and for the people to feel the impact of governance.

In his words “we must reward the support that the students have been giving to the council and local government area in general. On that note we don’t know how the council will do it, but we will have to find a way to do it. The students have to be paid #50,000 , and we are not saying that the #50,000 will be short payed for any dues, the students should get the full payment.”
Hon Obarilomate Ollor also added “We are not doing it because of anybody, but we are doing it because we felt that is what our people deserved”.

The Eleme council boss also spoke on how the bursary will be disburse.
He informed that the bursary payment will start with students that are in session, and everybody will be schedule for payment. In his words ” So, in as much as we want to help, we also want to be reasonable. We know that ASUU will not remain permanently on strike. We will start with people that are in school now”, he said.

The council chairman also, called on people in the area to strive to get education and shun social vices. He said , ” Everybody should strive to go to school because we are also paying attention to students in what ever we are doing.”
He assured people that the council will fulfil the bursary promise, and also appealed to the students to be dedicated to their studies and avoid acts capable of destroying their future.
