Having garnered the highest number of points in the 2021/2022 Nigerian Professional Football League, Rivers United have been crowned champions of Nigeria at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium, Port Harcourt.
The Port Harcourt based side rallied to a historic 77 points finish after beating Gombe United 1 nil on the last day of the season in front of home fans.
Just after the victory, the executive governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike presented the trophy to the glory boys, charging them to extend same feat at the continental level when they participate in the 2022/2023 CAF Champions League.
Rivers people turned out en masse to cheer their darling team to victory. Dignitaries who joined the team at the victory celebration include; Sir Siminalayi Fubara; Rivers PDP governorship candidate, Sen. Olaka Nwogu among others.
